The National Videogame Museum (NVM) is thrilled to unveil Tracey Johnson as Chair of Trustees of its governing charity, The BGI.

Bringing extensive experience across technology, innovation and the creative industries, Tracey joins the National Videogame Museum at a pivotal moment in its development. Her appointment strengthens the Board’s expertise across culture, visitor attractions, videogames, fundraising and marketing, supporting the Museum as it builds on its success and delivers an ambitious vision for national growth.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Under the leadership of Co-CEOs Cat Powell and John O’Shea since 2022, the NVM has done significant work consolidating the collection, developing exhibitions and enriching the experience for audiences and researchers. Based in Sheffield, the Museum has become a vital cultural asset for the region while establishing a growing national and international reputation for leadership in videogame heritage, preservation, research and public engagement.

As the UK’s only museum dedicated to the history, social and cultural impact of videogames, the NVM is positioned at the forefront of preserving the Nation’s videogame heritage. With a mission statement asserting that videogames are for everyone, the Museum continues to evolve, ensuring gaming culture and its preservation is relevant and accessible to all.

Leadership for the Museum’s Next Chapter

Tracey is a recognised leader in digital innovation and technology sector development. As Project Director of TECH SY, she leads initiatives to grow South Yorkshire’s technology ecosystem and has built a national reputation for creating partnerships that drive innovation, business growth and investment. Her experience of strategic leadership, partnership building and supporting the creative and digital industries will help the Museum expand its reach, develop new collaborations and strengthen its position at the intersection of culture, technology and education.

Looking ahead

Tracey will take over from Claire Boissiere, whose Board tenure ends after 6 years. Tracey joins a dynamic Board of Trustees who bring extensive experience in game development, cultural institutions, brand management and technological innovation. The Board of the National Videogame Museum, will celebrate the Museum’s presence in the North and enhance the understanding of its communities and their needs, while bringing a National profile to the Charity’s innovative work.
